One thing I absolutely love about the Fire Emblem series is being able to consistently create a diverse cast of characters for each entry. There's always something that differentiates them from other characters of their own games and from even other entries, and it makes getting to know these characters an interesting and enjoyable experience. With this blog series, I hope to highlight some of my favorite characters of the franchise. :)

BoydName: Boyd

Origin: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance; Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Other interesting quirks:

+ Has two brothers, Oscar and Rolf

+ All three can perform their own triangle attack under special conditions

Boyd and his brothers struggled with a meager existence prior to joining the mercenaries, especially once his biological father died and his step-mother eloping with another lover. Being the second oldest, he was tasked to care for baby Rolf while Oscar tried to provide for the trio to no avail. Eventually, they were taken in by Greil, and the mercenary work they were provided with helped stabilized their lifestyle. As a result, Boyd became wholly dedicated to the mercenary troop, and he considered his comrades-in-arms as part of his extended family.

Amusingly, Boyd developed a friendly rivalry with Ike as their careers began to take shape. While he is boastful and always trying to one-up the aspiring ranger, Boyd does lend Ike his fullest support, especially once he unexpectedly takes up the helm as the leader of the Greil Mercenaries. On the other hand, he isn't afraid to voice his disagreements, and he is often seen butting heads with his younger brother, Rolf; he still cherishes his baby sibling despite their frequent arguments.

Even with the Mad King's War reaching its conclusion, Boyd remained with the Greil Mercenaries, with his audacious nature much more tempered. During the conflict between the Laguz Alliance and Begnion, both him and Oscar confronted Rolf's biological mother in their trek, and he was adamant in letting her meet with the archer as feelings of resentment bubbled up.
